Interdisciplinary content production company Dengyu Culture enlisted Moment Factory to create Oriens Lumina, an immersive multimedia experience on the grounds of the Nine Trees Future Art Centre, in Shanghai’s suburban Fengxian district. The outdoor, nighttime entertainment offering weaves lighting design, video projection, interactive media, and an original soundscape to transform the forest’s natural surroundings.
Inspired by elements of ancient Chinese mythology and longstanding Fengxian traditions, Oriens Lumina invites visitors on a journey to witness the return of the forest’s lost light. Nature’s winding pathway guides visitors through five mysterious realms that encapsulate the energy of the Five Elements: water, wood, fire, metal, and earth. The experience’s original story world was developed through consultation with cultural experts, who helped infuse the narrative with regional heritage and ancient mythology. The first Lumina Enchanted Night Walk to open in China, Oriens Lumina was designed and installed remotely during the pandemic through the collaboration of a local, on-site team.
